Rising from Ashes, the award-winning feature-length documentary about Rwanda’s national cycling team, will make its Cleveland premiere tonight at 7 at the Cedar Lee Theatre. The event benefits the Heights Bicycle Coalition and Bike Cleveland. Docs are always so heavy and depressing, but Rising from Ashes is a “joyous and uplifting” independent film, according to its PR materials, though the cycling team is established in a country still affected deeply by the 1994 genocide. Two worlds collide when cycling legend Jacques “Jock” Boyer moves to Rwanda in 2006 to help a group of survivors pursue their dream of creating a national cycling team.
