Opening Reception: Black Lumina: Beyond the Unseeing Gaze

Pinwheel Gallery is proud to present “Black Lumina: Beyond the Unseeing Gaze” – a solo exhibition of work by Zakiya “Lenabella” Jones. This is a fantasy-driven exploration of Black identity freed from the constraints of historical oppression and the “white gaze.” Each piece weaves together vibrant, dreamlike depictions of Black people as they might exist in a world uninhibited by cultural erasure, embodying strength, joy, and self-determination. These scenes transcend earthly limitations, reflecting Zakiya’s vision of Black life beyond the margins, where identity and agency shine in their full expression.
