It's a Man's World

Science and sexism are the themes in the play Photograph 51. It tells the story of intelligent and abrasive Rosalind Franklin who worked as a researcher at King’s College in London. The gender inequality was striking: She had to address her male peers as “Dr.” while they addressed her as “Miss” even after she received her Ph.D. Franklin continued her work and later took a photograph that would change science forever, but her male counterparts took full credit away from her. Her ability to navigate the male-dominate world is reflected in the play Photograph 51, which opens tonight at 8 at the Actors’ Summit in Akron. It runs through Feb. 2. Tickets are $20.
