William Hooker Trio/Baekdudaegan/Magnetic West

Best known as a punk and indie rock club, Now That’s Class actually hosts a wide range of music. Tonight, for example, jazz drummer William Hooker brings his avant-garde trio to town. Hooker has been drumming for 40 years (his 1978 debut album featured jazz icons such as David Murray and a young David S. Ware). His 2010 album Yearn for a Century is a noisy affair that suggests the punk crowd that normally hangs at Now That’s Class might find Hooker’s music to their liking. The local improv trio Baekdudaegan opens the show along with a handful of other forward-thinking musicians. (Jeff Niesel)
