Waxahatchee/Allison Crutchfield/Small Wood House

Twin sisters Allison and Katie Crutchfield have risen to DIY dominance over the past half decade thanks to their songwriting and lyrical chops — once their joint project P.S. Eliot broke up, Allison formed the fuzz-pop group Swearin’ and Katie started Waxahatchee, both of which have reached relative indie success. Katie’s haunting, slightly folky vocal style lends itself perfectly to the intimacy of her songwriting, leading the listener to feel as though she’s singing straight at them. Tracks like “Air” and “Half Moon,” both off of last year’s Ivy Tripp, accentuate this perfectly. The melodies are slow but sweet, with each note full of so much character and passion it’s impossible to divert one’s attention for even a split second. Expect a full-sounding, yet intimate performance that’s captivating from start to finish. (Shively)
