War Witch

War Witch, Canadian director Kim Nguyen’s film about a 12-year-old African girl (Rachel Mwanza) who has telekinetic powers, won countless awards upon its release last year and was even nominated for an Oscar. The story centers on the African army’s recruitment of the young girl and features a terrific performance by Mwanza, who portrays Mwanza as she transforms from a frightened girl to a fierce warrior who protects the rebel leader who has made her into his “war witch.” (Jeff Niesel)
