There are lots of reasons to take part in today’s walk and run for the Diversity Center, not the least of which is the free food, drink, and entertainment. Factor in free admission to the Rock Hall, the Great Lakes Science Center, and the Baseball Heritage Museum for all participants, and you’ve got some pretty compelling reasons to get out of bed and lace up the sneakers. The event — a three-mile walk and 5-K run — is a fund-raiser for the organization’s youth outreach programs: Staffers are expecting nearly 7,000 registrants and a haul of a couple hundred thousand dollars. But the real reason to take part is this: Since 2002, Walk, Rock & Run has served as a celebration of diversity in Cleveland, helping to create a community where everyone is connected, respected, and valued. “Raising the money is important,” says coordinator Marci Curtis. “But when I see that sea of faces — all ages, all colors, all walks of life — that’s what really makes my day.” The run begins at 8:30 a.m.; walkers step off at 9 a.m. Both events begin and end at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s plaza. Runners pay $25 to sign up and walkers are free. Register online or at the event. Details are on the website.
