Umphrey’s McGee/the Bright Light Social Hour

Chicago-based Umphrey’s McGee first formed while band members were attending Notre Dame University in South Bend in 1997. Yes, that means the guys have been around for 15 years, outlasting many of the acts that they once considered peers. The group’s most recent studio album, last year’s Death by Stereo showcased their songwriting abilities and delivered (short) soulful tunes such as “Miami Virtue” and “Domino Theory,” which have more in common with Maroon 5 than the Grateful Dead.
