Third Eye Blind/Hydra Melody

Third Eye Blind has been off our musical radar since the late ’00s, when the San Francisco band tried to make a comeback of sorts with Ursa Major, another collection of catchy power-pop tracks that evoked past hits such as 1997’s “Semi-Charmed Life.” Yes, it’s hard to believe the band has survived for 25 years but frontman Stephan Jenkins, an English major turned songwriter, has just enough skill to keep the band’s music interesting. On Ursa, he nicely veers between sensitive ballads (“One in Ten”) and party anthems (“Summer Town”) and shows more staying power than you’d suspect from a one-hit wonder. When the group played House of Blues at about this time last year, it sold the place out. Expect similar results this time around. (Niesel)
