The Summer Set/We Are the In Crowd/Go Radio/For the Foxes

Girls in pop rock bands are rare these days. Female drummers are even scarcer. Enter The Summer Set. The Scottsdale, Arizona, quintet’s debut Love Like This hadn't been out a year before the band was recruited for a 2009 AP Tour and played sold out shows to fans who had yet to form opinions of them. The band’s cotton candy boy-meets-girl love songs are catchy and upbeat, filled with sing-along choruses and singer Brian Dales prepubescent vocals. While their sophomore album Everything’s Fine strayed slightly from pop with its easy-listening acoustics throughout, the forthcoming disc Legendary brings back the synthesizer. The single “Fuck U Over” is so sugary, you either don’t notice or don’t care that Dales is talking about a one-night stand. (Nikki Hunt)
