The Spits/Useless Eaters/Short Rabbits/Smooth Brain
When: Fri., Oct. 4, 9 p.m. 2013
Garage rockers the Spits headline this show but be sure to arrive early for the Short Rabbits. This Moment In Black History’s Buddy Akita, who's accompanied by his wife Christina on drums, provides the band's great slashing guitar work. Along with bassist and vocalist Charlie Ditteaux (ex-Easter Monkeys, ex-Knifedance), Christina makes up one half of a heavy and deliberately primitive rhythm section of a band that has been described as “dark angry shit that absolutely rocks.” Their 2008 LP Dying By Inches delivers a sense of the ominous with “Out of this World” and the tense and anxiety-laden “The Murder Room." LIve, the band cranks out Cleveland-style post punk with total menace. (CJ Klasa)
