The Sarajevo Haggadah

One of Jewish's culture's most revered manuscripts, the Haggadah has a complex history. It traveled from medieval Spain to 20th-century Bosnia where it was hidden and then rescued during World War II. In the early '90s, the National Museum in Sarajevo restored it. Inspired by Geraldine Brooks' historical novel, composer/performer Merima Ključo has written a multimedia work for accordion, piano and video that traces the Haggadah's story. She uses the musical traditions of Spain, Italy, Austria and Bosnia-Herzegovina, in "The Sarajevo Haggadah: Music of the Book." She'll perform the piece tonight at 7:30 at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Brooks will be on hand to introduce the program. Tickets are $30 to $40. (Niesel)
