The Postmodern Condition

A mix of animation and live action, The World, a trippy 2004 film by director Jia Zhangke, centers on the life of a young Chinese couple that works at Beijing World Park, a theme park filled with replications of many of the world's most notable buildings. A veiled critique of life in China, the film provides a critique of globalization and urbanization. Its stunning visuals make up for the lack of any real narrative. It screens tonight at 6:30 at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Admission is free. (Niesel)
