The Jauntee/The MuckleBuck/Alex Hall's Figurehead

Borrowing with zeal from Phish’s jazz-wank playbook, the Boston-based Jauntee bring a really cool sound to the world of second- and third-tier jam bands, if you will. The last time they played the Beachland, they tore up a nearly 35-minute cover of Beck’s “Devil’s Haircut.” It was wild. And the rest of the show was pretty great too. They can kick around polyrhythmic compositional stuff alongside goofy covers of Cake songs. 2012’s Enjoy the Ride remains their sole studio effort, but they’ve got a bunch of great, improv-heavy shows on the revered archive.org. Seek out the 12/7/13 “Flutterby,” which has been earmarked by fans over the past few months as a really top-notch jam. (Sandy)
