The Flowering of the Botanical Print

In celebration of the centennials of both the Cleveland Botanical Garden and the Cleveland Museum of Art, CMA debuts the Flowering of the Botanical Print today in the CMA’s the Prints and Drawings Galleries. Through more than 70 prints, drawings and books, the exhibition traces the history of the fruit and flower print from simple woodcuts in the late 15th century to extravagant 19th century color prints. The exhibition showcases the “masterful draftsmanship and scientific accuracy” of botanical artists before the invention, or at least wide availability, of the camera. The Flowering of the Botanical Print remains on view through July 3. Free. (Josh Usmani)
