The Art of Noise

A painter, composer and builder of musical instruments, Luigi Russolo was a member of the Italian futurist movement from its inception. During that time, he created Intonarumori (“noise intoners”), wooden sound boxes with cone-shaped metal speakers that are essentially mechanical synthesizers. A crank generates the sound and a lever controls tone and pitch. In 2009, composer/musicologist Luciano Chessa recreated the intoners and toured with his Intonarumori Ensemble through all the major European festivals. Tonight at 7:30 at the Cleveland Museum of Art, he presents a concert that will include two world premieres. Tickets start at $33. (Niesel)
