Samothrace/Pilgrim/Red Sun

Seattle-based doom rockers Samothrace go for something epic on their new album, Reverence to Stone. The album commences with “When We Emerged,” a tune that starts with a barely audible guitar riff but then builds on a nasty bit of guitar feedback and pure sludge before singer-guitarist unleashes a menacing growl. The song carries on like this for nearly 15 minutes, sometimes piping down to something more palatable. The album’s other tune — the 20-minute “A Horse of Our Own” — is just as menacing. Expect to hear these two songs tonight as the group is playing the album in its entirety for the duration of the tour. (Jeff Niesel)
