Robert Lockwood Jr. 98th Birthday Celebration: Cleveland Blues Guitar Fest

Ever since singer-guitarist Robert Lockwood died in 2006, local musicians have gathered at least once a year to pay tribute to the local blues hero. Taught by Robert Johnson, Lockwood was one of the last great original blues players (and the Rock Hall recently installed one of his old guitars) and he never tired of playing with his band, the All-Stars, who, up until the last year of his life, held down a regular weekly gig at the now-shuttered Fat Fish Blue. Some of those guys will be on hand for tonight’s show, which will mark what would have been the Lockwood’s 98th birthday. A slew of guest guitarists, including Robert and Jack Kidney (of The Numbers Band) and Wallace Coleman, will also be on hand for what promises to be a huge, blowout jam session. (Jeff Niesel)
