Psychedelic Freakout at the Beachland

Whether you missed the era of peace, love, and harmony — or are just sitting around stoned, waiting for its return — tonight’s Psychedelic '60s Freakout at the Beachland Ballroom should be about all it takes to resurrect your inner hippie. Beginning at 9, the Solar Fire Lightshow will be firing up the way-back machine for a multi-media night that conjures up those high times of bell bottoms, protest marches, and free love. More than 40 of the era’s most memorable songs will be blasted out over a super sound system, synced up with what organizer Jim Lascko calls a “radical” 11-projector light display. Lascko, the mastermind behind the three-hour psychedelic event, has been putting on light shows since 1995: 600 to 700 by his own estimate! “I think it’s going to be a feel-good thing. If it’s successful, we’ll certainly do other similar events in the future.” On the play list: songs by Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, Donovan, the Byrds, the Electric Prunes, and more. If that’s not enough to fuel your mellow, the light show will include video clips and photos from the era, along with a trippy oil-lighting display from legendary visual effects technician Mick Brockett, formerly of '70s prog-rock band Nektar. Tickets are $10 in advance, or $12 at the door. Find out more at strange-trips.com.
