Promise Heroes

Directors Joe Brewster and Michele Stephenson spent 13 years making American Promise, a documentary about two young African-American boys who enroll in a private, mostly white kindergarten and then try to follow their hopes and dreams to one day attend college. Along the way, they encounter a number of unforeseen obstacles, many of which are captured in the riveting film. It makes its Cleveland premiere tonight at 6:30 at the Cleveland Museum of Art and then screens again at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $9. (Niesel)
