A tribute to singer-songwriter John Prine, the Prime Prines play both Prine's "pedal steel driven country material" as well as his "more somber and introspective tunes." Expect to hear a wide range of music from the man's catalog when the group performs tonight. Opener Cory Grinder has just released a terrific album of original old school country music. Originally, Grinder played in bands such as Johnny & the Apple Stompers, Fast Molasses, and Rodney and the Regulars before recruiting a few of those former band mates to join him as the Cory Grinder Band. "Crazy As Me," the album's twangy first track, features the freewheeling vibe of a Blasters number as Grinder practically yodels his way through the tune. For the live shows, Grinder says he relies heaviliy on his pedal steel player. He usually looks the part too and will often don a powder blue suit and try to appear like an old country star at the Grand Ole Opry. (Niesel)
