American Idol winner Phillip Phillips took the pop world by storm with his No. 6 hit, “Home,” in 2013. His follow-up, Gone, Gone, Gone, also enjoyed a Hot 100 stint. Known for mastering acoustic ballads with a kick, Phillips plugged in for this year’s Collateral, showcasing an edge he previously lacked. The bluesy vocals and rock ’n’ roll riffs on the singer-songwriter’s junior album suggest his range.
