Oso Oso/Queen of Jeans/Runaway Brother/The Sonder Bombs

Oso Oso looks like the typical indie band at first glance but dig a little deeper, and you’ll find it’s the little things that set them apart. The killer guitar riff before the bridge in “the secret spot,” and front man Jade Dimitri’s pop punk voice is just whiney enough to carry that “emo” edge without being annoying that make Oso Oso different. “Great Big Beaches” is a standout that delves deeper emotionally and instrumentally than the bulk of the yunahon mixtape, the New York boys’ latest full-length. The shiniest gems, however, are found in this year’s two-track EP. “Gb/ol h/nf” is a well-written nostalgic endeavor and “subside,” a slowed-down experiment with a huge payoff. Queen of Jeans, who toe the line between trippy and rebellious with a cool confidence, opens the show. The female-fronted four piece finds a way to bring an intimate feel to everything it touches, and its latest album is no exception. Dig Yourself is a girl power trip down a winding road of self-discovery for the flower children. You won’t regret dipping a toe into the Philly-based band’s hazy world. (Weber)
