Ohio Philharmonic Orchestra

When Antonio Pompa-Baldi sits down at the Steinway, he doesn’t just tickle the ivories, he gives them a deep-tissue massage. Those chops are what earned the Italian native first prize in the 1999 Cleveland International Piano Competition, and they’re what snagged him the post of distinguished professor of piano at the Cleveland Institute of Music. You can hear what the fuss is about this weekend at the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Gartner Auditorium, as Pompa-Baldi lays into the Grieg Piano Concerto in A Minor. He’ll be accompanied by the Ohio Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of music director Domenico Boyagian, in a program that includes Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, and Greig’s Holberg Suite. Friday's concert is at 7:30. Saturday’s performance is at 2 p.m. Tickets are $29 to $36, and less for students, seniors, and CMA members. Get them by phone or via the orchestra’s website.
