This year's NEO ComicCon, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the North Olmsted Soccer Sportsplex features more than 100 comic book dealers artists, and pop culture craftspeople, with 170 tables of items for sale. Many of those tables will feature the convention’s specialty: comic books, comic books, comic books. The event, founded in 2015, features the area’s largest selection of comic book and pop culture vendors, as well as new and established artists in a safe, family-friendly environment. Proceeds from this year’s event benefit Friendship Animal Protective League, who will offer an adoption booth, giving attendees a chance to become a hero to animals in need of a good home. In addition, NEO ComicCon has produced a special comic book, Scrapper #1 from Image Comics, with a cover specifically designed for this event. This limited edition, exclusive cover features the logo for Friendship APL. Proceeds from both the comic and a charity raffle, featuring dozens of items donated by the convention’s artists and vendors, will go directly to the APL. NEO ComicCon’s special guest this year is Steven Butler, co-creator of Scarlet Spider, a character from the universe of Marvel’s Amazing Spider-Man. Butler is also known for his incredible work on Sonic the Hedgehog and Archie. There will also be a cosplay contest featuring dozens of entrants and cash prizes with divisions for both adults and children. Parking is free, with additional parking provided by Lorain County Community College at their nearby campus. A special limousine bus, sponsored by Integrity Home Mortgage, will be available to shuttle attendees to the convention. Tickets are $5, and children 10 and under entering free of charge. Pre-sale tickets are available at Comics Are Go in Sheffield Village; pre-sale tickets allow attendees to queue inside the venue and enter the convention first.
