Music at the Birth of the Renaissance: Four Seasons in Trecento Florence
When: Fri., March 2, 7:30-9:30 p.m. 2018
Florence was the site of the birth of the Renaissance, but while the accomplishments in architecture, art and literature from this time are well-known, the music is largely ignored. In this program, the Cleveland-based medieval ensemble Trobár delves into the music of Florence in the Trecento, or fourteenth century, exploring madrigals, ballate, caccias, laude and saltarelli, both playing historical instruments and singing. The program is organized around the four seasons, with songs about love, springtime and the hunt, as well as sacred mass movements and songs of praise to Florence’s patron saints.
