Since forming in 2005, singer-guitarist Nicole Barille and drummer Sam Meister, the couple that makes up the indie/experimental-rock duo Mr. Gnome, have consistently delivered one good album after another. The band’s most recent full-length, last year’s Madness in Miniature, is a real tour de force that alternately evokes Portishead and Wolfmother. While it’s just a duo, the band really cranks up the volume when it plays live, and Barille, a real screecher who can give PJ Harvey a run for her money, uses a variety of electronic effects to mimic the layered sounds you hear on the albums. Known for its artistically adventurous music videos, the group has also just released an eight-minute video for “House of Circles.” The exotic costumes they wear makes it look like they raided the closet of a Cirque du Soleil dancer.
