Mingo Fishtrap/Scarlet & the Harlots

If you’re looking for a soul shakedown party to liven up the weekend, Mingo Fishtrap will provide the goods. With a little bit of funk and a little bit o’ the blues, the band deftly weaves among solidly American musical traditions. Cue up the band’s live take on “Let The Games Begin,” which showcases super-tight interplay between drummers Chip Vayenas and Mikel Urdy and guitarist Roger Blevins Jr. A dynamic brass section rounds out the color of the music, while bassist Roger Blevins Sr. and keys man Dane Farnsworth lay down rhythms and ambient washes, respectively. They’ve gigged alongside the likes of Galactic, Little Feat and many others (though those two bands will give you a pretty solid reference point). Scarlet and the Harlots open the show.
