Plugging into modern psychedelia, MGMT has formed a tidy niche by way of several college radio hits and a penchant for merging the worlds of jamtronica and throwback 1960s attitudes. In 2007, the band released Oracular Spectacular, complete with the uber-catchy “Kids” and “Time To Pretend.” In fact, the initial high-pitched melody in the latter became somewhat of a bong-rip alarm clock for undergrads the world over back in the day. The band has kept its profile fairly consistent since then. Congratulations, which dropped in 2010, was a bit more restrained, but it was clear that the band was still intent on delivering the goods. A new, self-titled album is due out in June. Tonight’s show — you can bet your ass — will be an unrelenting party all night long. (Eric Sandy)
