Mac DeMarco/Tonstartssbandht

Mac Demarco is well-known for on-stage antics and hijinks as well as bizarre cover songs. Though his band stopped covering it, Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s “Takin’ Care of Business” used to be a regular setlist staple. He might be a clown on-stage, but the music Mac Demarco writes and records is pretty mature and refined. His new album This Old Dog strips away some of the guitar echo from his previous albums, leaving more room for Demarco’s surprisingly clear-headed lyrics. Title track “This Old Dog” is smooth and confident, pushing Demarco a little further into ‘serious songwriter’ territory. Prolific psych-rockers Tonstartsbandht (led by Andy White, a member of Demarco’s touring unit) will open the show. (Johnny Cook)
