Surf rock and luchador masks? Quite right: Los Straitjackets have been combining unlikely worlds as part of a wily band with a cult following. Last year’s Jet Set may be the best place to check out the band, as they’ve been rolling out a lot of those tunes on the stage recently. The high end in “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah” is a warm tip of the hat to the West Coast, bright sun, and, you know, rock ‘n’ roll. The atmosphere of Los Straitjackets shows revolves around unbridled fun. In fact, the studio stuff is fine, but this band is best experienced in a live setting. They’ve released a couple live albums, giving would-be fans another terrific entry point. (Sandy)
