It’s not often that an avant garde jazz group from Switzerland comes to town. So get thee to Guide to Kulchur’s basement tonight to check out Le Rex. Last summer, the band went to a beach in Corsica to record its latest CD, Ascona. Songs such as “Hard Times” and “Vendetta” really swing while sax-driven numbers such as “Sbunf” and “Baklava” are mellow, meditative numbers. Their noisy, dissonant rendition of “Ghostbusters” is a real hoot. Admission is free but donations are requested. (Niesel)
