Jonny Lang/Honor by August

In his younger years, guitarist Jonny Lang’s life was riddled with smoke and haze and hallucinations. He would go on to clean up and find God and, thankfully, continue putting out terrific music. His major label debut came at age 16, prompting elbows-rubbing sessions with contemporary greats like Eric Clapton. Lang’s stuff has always found roots in the blues, but his style draws on many corners of the guitar-driven world of music. "I grew up listening to Motown music, and my parents always listened to it," he told Scene earlier in his career. "I've always been a real big fan of soul music. But I also love James Taylor. I'm the kind of person whose style changes as my influences keep changing. I can't help it." His latest release, Fight For My Soul, is out this week, surely lending an air of freshness to tonight’s gig. (Sandy)
