Singer Johnette Napolitano had a few hits in the late '80s with the hard-rocking alternative act Concrete Blonde. Thanks to songs such as "God is a Bullet" and "Joey," she established a foothold in a world dominated by male singers, occupying a slot once owned by Patti Smith. She's currently touring in support of the latest Concrete Blonde material — "Rosalie"/"I Know the Ghost," a 2013 vinyl single that veers more in an alt-country direction though "Ghost" still has that fierceness that typified Concrete Blonde's music. She also recently released Rough Mix, the first of a series of memoirs, stories, poetry, lyrics and essays about her life. (Niesel)
