Originally slated to team up with Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings at Cain Park, James Hunter will bring his latest material to Kent tonight in the wake of that show’s cancellation. Hunter’s voice is a soulful trip across the years. It’s timeless. In particular, his vocals work wonders against the upbeat backdrop of Kyle Koehler and Andrew Kingslow’s organ vibes. (Cue up “Minute by Minute” to check that magic out firsthand.) Hell, while we’re talking magic: You in the mood to dance tonight? You’ll get your fix. Test out your dancing shoes ahead of time by dropping the needle on “Gold Mine,” a super jaunty number that lends itself well to getting close and coxy on the dance floor. Tune in to Hunter’s voice throughout the song, and you’ll realize that he’s in the game for the fun of it all. You should be, too. And you can be after a quick sojourn down 480 this evening.
