Evan Thomas Weiss writes and records as Into It. Over It., and he’s made a great name for himself as a master of dynamism and emo-revivalism. His latest album, Standards, dropped in March, and it continues that thread of introspective songwriting. “Open Casket” opens the album, dragging Weiss’ diary-entry lyrics across a lilting guitar melody before buzzing into “Closing Argument” and the rest of this stash of great tunes. “Your Lasting Image” bleeds nicely into “Old Lace & Ivory,” which builds into a feedback mountain that pulls you into the album’s subtle climax. Word is Weiss hid away from the world in a cold Vermont cabin to write this album, crafting a series of songs that come out as lively conversations with himself, and, really, with all of us listeners.
