When IDLES started making visceral punk rock music together back in 2012, their music was a wild mess, and that's why it isn't too surprising it took the British act five years to put out its first full-length record. When Brutalism finally came out last year, that untrained sound was still there, but the five-piece showed just how refined it'd become. The music wails with purpose, covering some of the band members' lowest moments, including drug addiction, death of a parent, medical battles and jail stints. The brutal way lead singer Joe Talbot yells, mourns and sings is mesmerizing. You can't help but listen and jump and scream right along. The group recently opened for the Foo Fighters at the O2 in London and is now on a short North American tour. (Laura Morrison)
