I Aint' In It for My Health: A Film About Levon Helm

Levon Helm wasn’t joking when he said, “I ain’t in it for my health.” Helm, who died last year of throat cancer, drummed and sang with the Band before embarking on a successful solo career. Canadian by birth, he embraced American roots music and country and played a prototypical version of what we now call alt-country or Americana. Director Jacob Hatley’s documentary, Ain’t in It for My Health: A Film About Levon Helm, includes interviews with the guy at his Woodstock home where he was working on recording an unfinished Hank Williams album. A touching tribute. (Jeff Niesel)
