With a new album on streets, Hospital Ships have tucked yet another feather in their cap. The band’s fuzz-rock sublimations have been the source of joy and warmth for many a listener since the initial stirrings in a quiet Lawrence, Kan., bedroom. Destruction In Yr Soul opens with a triumphant, reaffirming “Come Back to Life,” showcasing a more finely honed approach to the craft. There’s typically something incredibly earnest about Midwest bands borne on the backs of solo songwriters. Hospitals Ships adds to the canon, especially with this latest outing. And that sentiment pairs well with frontman Jordan Geiger’s compositional creativity. The instrumentation strewn through “Desolation Waltz” showcases his tendency to zag when others might zig.
