While most critics would describe the band as industrial metal, the members of Hanzel und Gretyl self describe their music as an “intergalactic fairytale.” If the fairytale is a career of nine lesser-known German thrasher-metal albums wrapped in leather binding, then they’re uber right. The band’s weird, post-apocalyptic take on the Hansel and Gretel children’s story has attracted fans who praise the pair for the head-banging aggressive style. One thing can be said about Hanzel und Gretyl: they haven’t changed their sound since starting in 1993. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing is debatable. (Nikki Hunt)
