HANDEL Alcina David Bamberger, director Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra Harry Davidson, conductor Handel is best known today for his Messiah, but in his own time he was celebrated for his operas. When CIM produced his Xerxes in 2010, The Plain Dealer wrote: “Who knew Handel could be so much fun?” The fun continues with Alcina, the story of a sorceress with an uncomfortably soft heart. She has a habit of capturing men and turning them into pet animals. That is, until the knight Ruggiero happens upon her island, and she falls madly in love! Location: Kulas Hall
