Mi Isla y Yo explores the journey toward liberation and autonomy from the perspective of a kid born Trans in Borínquen (Puerto Rico). Rullán – Fantauzzi highlights the island’s storied history, including the banning of the country’s flag, and the ongoing threats of displacement and the commodification of land. Addressing how the land and the body and their connectivity are suppressed through the power of politics, Rullán – Fantauzzi recognizes the struggle to maintain a unique existence under threatening conditions. Through personal memories and imagery, this exhibition reflects on simply existing as your true self is an act of resistance.
