Ghost B.C./Baroness/Royal Thunder

If the billing of the Swedish band Ghost BC and the hard rocking Baroness seems a bit strange, that’s because it is. Ghost BC is swining through town on its way to Lollapalooza and wanted to play a gig before arriving in Chicago. Baroness was already booked at House of Blues. The bands have never shared a bill but they are friends (and share the same booking agent) so it all came together nicely. Both bands play heavy music but their approaches are quite different. The members of Ghost B.C. all call themselves “nameless ghouls” and they don cloaks when they perform. Their music often features symphonic flourishes and is informed by the death metal indigenous to Scandinavia. Baroness is a heavy stoner rock band that shifted into something more complex on last year’s Yellow and Green. (Jeff Niesel)
