Frankie Cosmos/Eskimeaux/Yowler

Despite her delicate image, twentysomething Frankie Cosmos, AKA Greta Kline, shouldn’t be patronized; she’s got worldly wisdom beyond her years and an equal amount of wit at her tender age. The result of this combination is genuine. She writes heartfelt ballads about navigating the young social sphere; clever, tongue-in-cheek metaphors propel the songs. On a track called “Sinister” from the band’s new album, Next Thing, Kline sings, “My soul is not like a waterpark/It’s big but surprisingly dark/It’s not as forgivable as you once thought/You’d still be here if it really was.” Next Thing is the band’s second official album, but Kline has released more 40 mini-albums online since 2009. Just try wriggling free from earworms like “If I Had a Dog,” “Too Dark” or “Sinister.” (Bethany Kaufman)
