If the term “flight school” sounds a little highfalutin, don’t worry. The weekly wine exploration at Rozi’s Wine House is more like a mid-day happy hour — and a whole lot less like class. “We used to run the flight school like a formal tasting,” says co-owner Corey Rossen. “But ever since we built the porch and patio, no one wants to listen to us: They just want to sit on the patio and drink!” In response, the ever-practical Rossen has come up with what he thinks is the perfect solution: Every Saturday afternoon, students of the grape can choose three three-ounce wines samples off the 15-label porch menu. Staffers will walk you through the wines’ characteristics as they pour. After that, you’re free to grab your glassware and recess to the porch. While you’re out there, consider pairing your wine with something from the menu of light apps: noshes like breads, spreads, baked brie, tacos, and cheese plates that go for $5 to $15. Rosen keeps the curriculum lively by changing up the wine list monthly. “It’s friendly, it’s laid back, and it’s kind of a Cheers’ atmosphere,” he says. “We don’t fool ourselves. We know face time with us isn’t the important part!” Flight school is in session today and every Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Three samples will cost you $5.95.
