Do the Math

Ever wonder what you get with a Ph.D in mathematics? Other than teaching college calculus and shit, what exactly do they do? Good thing Life, the Universe and Hot Dogs (the monthly science-specific series at the Happy Dog) is here to answer those befuddling questions that are so perplexing. Tonight at 7:30, Danny Solow of CWRU’s Department of Organization & Management will discuss what mathematicians actually do. Teaser and synopsis: Applied mathematicians try to figure out how the universe works and theoretical mathematicians try to figure out why the universe works. Solow is a one smart cookie who has written books on teaching theoretical mathematics, so he’s an ideal tutor while you pound down dogs and brews. (Allard)
