Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty developed a friendship with (keyboardist) Rich Morel while the two were touring with Bob Mould. They had such a good time playing together, they decided to form their own band, which they christened Deathfix. That was three years ago. Earlier this year, the band finally released its self-titled debut, an album of retro-sounding tunes that are far more accessible than anything Canty ever released with hardcore heroes Fugazi. “I think it’s just that we’re dipping into our record collections,” Canty says of the band’s influences. “We just realized after a period of time what sticks. There are plenty of things that are super interesting that I love, things like Brian Eno’s Here Come the Warm Jets or any Bowie record.” This show marks the group’s Cleveland debut. (Jeff Niesel)
