Death Grips/Ratking

There’s something increasingly enticing about artists willing to skirt the edge of conventional hip-hop. But Death Grips do more than any other act to push — nay, fuck up — the boundaries of normalcy and even decency. Stefan “MC Ride” Burnett and his anger front the trio, which includes drummer Zach Hill (who sounds like he has to have at least eight arms) and keyboard/sampler wizard Andy “Flatlander” Morin. When the group dropped the free mixtape Exmilitary in 2011, their collective menacing took the hip-hop community by storm. The Money Store and No Love Deep Web followed in short order, stretching the group’s badassery into more esoteric realms. (Compare 2011’s “Beware” to 2012’s “Get Got” for a worthy sense of growth and expansion via the group’s unsettling aggression.) Tonight’s gig is sure to be a head-banging affair. (Eric Sandy)
