Danish Dame

Turns out, being a princess isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be. If the Danish film A Royal Affair is to be trusted, it’s actually quite a hassle. Director Nikolaj Arcel’s Oscar-nominated foreign film centers around real-life princess and queen of Denmark Caroline Matilda during the mid-18th century. Hitched to the historically insane King Christian, Caroline finds herself trapped by a loveless marriage and rocky political climate. The rest anyone needs to know about the film is revealed by its title. Unsurprisingly, Caroline cheats on her husband, as queens do, and the bulk of the film is spent chronically that love triangle. A Royal Affair shows today at the Cleveland Museum of Art at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $9. (Rees)
