Busting a Move

Director Michel Gondry has made some terrific films. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep and Be Kind Rewind all featured distinctive visuals. Gondry, who cut his directing teeth making music videos, has a good sense of how to use music in his films too. His latest effort, The We and I, opens to the sounds of Young MC’s “Bust a Move” and features kids from the South Bronx riding the bus home on the last day of school. There isn’t much of a plot here but the film has a unique sensibility and retro feel to it (think of Spike Lee’s early “joints”). (Jeff Niesel)
